Please Note:
To accept the credits for students, you must create a new Microsoft Account & Verify it with your current SCU Email. This guide will walk you through that process.
Project only works on Windows.
Azure Account Setup
You will need to create a new Microsoft Account to access Azure. You cannot use your current Student email for this.
You can follow these steps below to create, verify, and use your Azure Account
This can be completed on any Operating System. Chrome is the recommended browser for this setup, although others (like Edge, Firefox, Safari) may work too.
Microsoft Account Creation
To make sure that account creation goes smoothly and doesn’t automatically log in with your real SCU account, Open a new Incognito tab (Ctrl + Shift + N on windows, Cmd + Shift + N on mac.)
In the incognito window, go to https://azure.microsoft.com/en-au/pricing/purchase-options/azure-account and click on “Sign In”.
Select Create Account when you’re inside the Sign In screen.

Once you’ve completed this step, you will be directed to https://portal.azure.com/#home with your newly made account.
After completing Step 1, you will be in https://portal.azure.com/#home. You need to use your newly created account to proceed.
Click start under Azure for Students
You will be taken to https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/free/students?icid=portal . Press ‘Start Free', not ‘Sign In’.
After this, you will be taken to the academic verification page. Here, you can enter your name, email, school, etc.
School name = Southern Cross University
School email address = SCU School email (f.lastname.number@student.scu.edu.au)
When you’ve finished this, Press “Verify Academic Status”
Now you can go to your SCU Student Email (outside the Incognito tab). You will find an email sent from Azure, like this
Copy + Paste that link into the Incognito tab (with the other Azure tabs).
After you’ve verified yourself, you will land on the Education Overview Screen https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Education/EducationMenuBlade/~/overview
Now that you’ve setup your Azure account, you can add https://portal.azure.com/#home to your bookmarks.
Credits are automatically claimed, you can view (spent) stats here: https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_CostManagement/Menu/~/costanalysis
You can now close the incognito tabs and sign-in/add the new account. You can switch logins from your SCU student account → Azure account easily via
Microsoft Project Install & Licensing
Microsoft Project is a robust project management software application developed by Microsoft, designed to help managers develop schedules, assign resources, track progress, and manage budgets. It provides tools such as Gantt charts and critical path analysis to plan, execute, and monitor complex projects of varying sizes.
Microsoft Project is automatically installed on SCU Laptops and SCU Lab computers.
However, if you are using a personal computer, you will need to manually license and install Project yourself. This article provides instructions on that process.
Note: Project is a single-use license.
Go to https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Education/EducationMenuBlade/~/overview
and log-in with your Azure Student account you created.In the Education menu, you will find a box with Free Software. You can press the “Explore all” text, this will redirect you to https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Education/EducationMenuBlade/~/software
Search from Project.
Click On Project Professional 2021 - DVD
Press Download. The file will be about 4.2GB, you may wait some time for it to fully download.
After the .iso file downloads, find it in your file explorer. Double click to open it.
The ISO will mount. You will see a new D: Drive, like this:
In D: Drive, run “Setup”. Allow the program to make changes to your computer.
Allow Install.
You will now be able to find MS Power on your Computer (Search with Win+S)
Once you’ve downloaded and installed Project, you will now be able to open it up. Search the app with Win+S.
When you’ve opened Project for the first time, you’ll notice that it asks for the product key.
If you cant find this page, in Project, go to Account > Change Product Key
Get your Product Key from the Software Install page (Step 1.4)
Double check to make sure you’re using your new Azure account in Project before using the Product Key. Don’t use your student account for this process.
