New Computer - Getting Started Guide
This guide is directed to Staff or Post Graduate Students who have received a new computer from Technology Services.
Please take a moment to go through each of the expandable sections below to make sure everything’s set up correctly.
To login to a new computer for the first time, you must be connected to the SCU network via a physical Ethernet cable
Once connected to the network, enter your full SCU email address and password
Here is out guide if you are not sure on your username and password - What's my Username & Password? also ensure you've setup two MFA methods
Select the magnifying glass icon down the bottom left of the taskbar
Search for OneDrive and open the application
Enter your SCU email address
You will be redirected to our SCU authentication screen where you will need to enter your normal SCU password
Once logged in, select Next
When asked to Back up your folders we advise you to select the Desktop, Documents and Pictures folder options.
When selected, they will have the blue tick in the top right corner, as seen below.
This will automatically sync these file locations for you.Open File Explorer and verify you can see your OneDrive folders in the OneDrive - Southern Cross University library

Select the Outlook icon on the taskbar or search for Outlook by selecting the magnifying glass icon down the bottom left of the taskbar
Enter your SCU email address
You will be redirected to our SCU authentication screen where you will need to enter your normal SCU password
Select Next and continue through the setup
When the account setup is complete, you can un-check the Set up Outlook Mobile on my phone checkbox
Depending how much data is in your mailbox and the number of shared mailboxes you have access to - will determine how long Outlook will take to download your emails. Please be patient. If you don't see your shared mailboxes in the left side of Outlook, please try closing and re-opening Outlook.

To connect your computer to the network in your office; from the wall outlet (generally left wall-outlet), connect a blue network cable to the back computer or docking station.
Turn the computer on to see if you login and see network drive mappings in File Explorer
You'll need to check that you audio will work in each application e.g. Zoom, Teams, Ultra see I can't hear through my headset when I use Teams/Zoom
Other Software - Install any extra Standard Operating Environment software (SOE) - see How to install software from the Company Portal
Bookmarks/Favourites - if you've made a made up and need to restore them for One Drive/Storage - Firefox, Edge & Chrome
