Auslan - Accessing Sign Language Interpretation in Zoom

If your Zoom meeting includes Auslan or another sign language interpreter, you can view the interpreter in a dedicated video channel using the Zoom Desktop App. This feature enhances accessibility for Deaf and hard-of-hearing participants.

🔒 Sign language interpretation is only supported in the Zoom Desktop App (Windows/Mac) version 5.11.3 or later.
It is not available when joining from a mobile device or web browser.

🖥️ How to View Sign Language Interpretation (Auslan)

1. Download or Update the Zoom Desktop App

   • Ensure you are using Zoom version 5.11.3 or later. You can check this by clicking your profile icon in Zoom > Help > About Zoom.

   • Download the latest version from https://zoom.us/download if needed.

2. Join the Zoom Meeting

   • Use the meeting link provided via Blackboard or email.

   • Open the link in the Zoom Desktop App, not a web browser.

3. Wait for the Host to Enable Sign Language Interpretation

   • The host will assign interpreters and start the interpretation feature once the meeting has begun.

4. Click the “Interpretation” Icon on the Zoom Toolbar

   • Look for the “Interpretation” icon

     
     . If it doesn’t appear, click the “More” (⋯) button.

   • This icon will only appear once the host has enabled interpretation.

5. Select “Auslan” as Your Language

   • A pop-out video window will open, showing the active Auslan interpreter.

   • This window automatically switches between interpreters when they take turns.

6. Resize or Move the Interpreter Window

   • You can drag the interpreter window anywhere on your screen or resize it to suit your preferences.
